Montana started his career in inpatient psychiatric nursing in Springfield, Missouri. This foundation taught him how to work with patients in acute crisis, manage complex psychiatric presentations, and recognize when medication intervention is critical. It also gave him deep respect.
He transitioned to outpatient psychiatric settings, where he worked alongside psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners. This is where he fell in love with what Montana calls “the real work of psychiatry,” taking time to understand patients, assessing medication needs, and building therapeutic relationships.
After years away, Montana returned to his native Kansas City area to be closer to family and launch Brady Psychiatry. He wanted to bring what he’d learned — clinical depth, patient-centered care, and a refusal to treat mental health as a quick-fix enterprise — back home to Johnson County and beyond.
Outside of work, Montana enjoys spending time with family and friends. Other interests include exploring new restaurants, grilling, and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs.
If you ask Montana’s patients what stands out, they’ll often say: “He actually listens.”
Montana is keenly aware that many patients come to him after negative experiences with psychiatric care. They’ve seen clinicians who didn’t listen. They’ve been rushed through appointments. They’ve been prescribed medication they didn’t understand. They’ve felt like a diagnosis code rather than a person.
“You’d be surprised,” Montana says, “at the number of patients who tell me, ‘No one ever listened to me’ or ‘You’re the first person who has actually listened.’ That shouldn’t be surprising. It should be the baseline.”
His approach is refreshingly humble. He’s not trying to impress you with credentials or fix everything in one visit. He’s trying to understand your history, your symptoms, your goals, and your values. From there, together, you figure out what comes next.
